Physician’s Statement:
Hello, my name is Dr. Faisal M Fakih, and I would like to be your partner on a journey towards health, happiness, and a fulfilling life. As a student and practitioner of traditional medicine, I witnessed firsthand the wonders of modern medicine, particularly when it came to the successful treatment of acute disease. Over time, however, I noticed that many patients were left with unanswered questions, overwhelming treatment plans, and little hope for successful outcomes. I was reminded of a quote from one of my professors in medical school: “Doctors are taught everything there is to know about disease, but almost nothing about good health.” To me, part of a successful treatment plan involves instilling patients with the information and tools necessary to get through day-to-day life while progressing from a state of disease into a state of good health and wellbeing. This is where the current healthcare model has failed patients and turned most doctors’ offices into a revolving door, checking out patients every 15 min with a new prescription in their hand and more questions and concerns in their head; “A pill for every ill” as is often said in the healthcare community.
As a functional medicine practitioner my goal is to create a lasting bond with my patients based on trust and understanding in order to guide them away from disease and towards good health. In order to do this one must incorporate every aspect of life into the treatment plan, not just the symptoms. I will take the time to look extensively over your personal and medical history, discuss every hardship interfering with your health, both physical and mental, and use this information to devise a plan with all the strategies and tools needed to achieve your goals. Good health is not just the absence of symptoms, it is a state of being, different for each individual, which allows them to achieve their full biologic potential and live long while “dying young”. Our goal should not only be to live to 100 years of age, but to also have a great quality of life while doing so.
